With roots dating back many centuries, Tae Kwon Do is the most recognized form of Korean martial arts. Literally translated, Tae Kwon Do means “foot-hand art.” The beauty of Tae Kwon Do, especially the spectacular kicking techniques, is recognized the world over. It is one of the many reasons why Tae Kwon Do has been recognized as an Olympic event. However, there is much more to Tae Kwon Do than kicking and punching. It has been designed as a non-violent art system of the entire body and mind. It is, quite literally, a philosophy and a way of life. Tae Kwon Do requires physical and mental discipline. But the rewards are many. Students benefit physically by developing good coordination and a good strong body. They benefit mentally by building judgment and as sound mind. Most importantly, students build a philosophical and spiritual foundation by learning to respect others, adhere to honesty as a basic principle, and always stand up for the weak.
Thus, Tae Kwon Do is a guide for the formation of outstanding character. The Tae Kwon Do student can become more than a martial artist. The Tae Kwon Do student can live a fulfilled existence.
